Mulching and Chipping in Townsville

Your tree leaves as mulch, or it leaves on the truck

We can chip just about anything with our Vermeer 18 inch chipper and three tonne winch. The mulch stays at your property, or we take it off site. Your call.

A chipper that handles what we cut

We run a Vermeer 18 inch chipper, which takes material up to 45cm in diameter, fitted with a three tonne winch. The winch is the part that matters on a job site: big limbs get dragged straight to the feed rather than being cut down again into pieces small enough to carry.

It means less time on your property, less handling, and a cleaner site at the end.

Keep the mulch or lose it

Everything that goes through the chipper on your job is yours if you want it. We can blow it straight onto garden beds, pile it somewhere out of the way, or load it out and take it off site. Say the word when we quote.

Fresh arborist mulch is the best thing you can put on a garden in this climate. It holds moisture through the dry, keeps the soil temperature down, feeds the soil as it breaks down and suppresses weeds. It is also free, which is not something you can say about anything else that does all four.

Using it properly

  • Seventy five to a hundred millimetres deep is the sweet spot
  • Keep it back off trunks and stems by a hand's width, never pile it against them
  • Fresh chip goes on the surface, not dug through the soil
  • Top it up once a year, it is doing its job as it disappears

Green waste and block clearing

We also take on standalone chipping: a pile from your own pruning, overgrown fence lines, regrowth on a block before a build, or a yard that has got away from someone. If you have already cut it and it is stacked, that is the cheapest version of the job.

Questions

Asked and answered

If yours is not here, ring us. We would rather talk it through than have you guessing at it.

Can I keep the mulch from my job?

Yes, and there is no charge for it. We can blow it onto garden beds, leave it in a pile, or take it away. Just tell us which when we quote.

How big a branch can you chip?

Up to 45cm in diameter through our Vermeer 18 inch chipper. The three tonne winch drags heavy limbs to the feed, so we are not cutting everything twice.

Is fresh mulch bad for my garden?

Not on the surface. Fresh arborist chip is excellent as a surface mulch. The problems only start if you dig it through the soil, where it ties up nitrogen while it breaks down.

Can you just chip a pile I have already cut?

Yes, and it is the cheapest version of the job. Stack it butt ends one way if you can and it goes through much faster.
